Grace

I learned of grace as a child. Simple words of gratitude spoken before mealtimes. Graceland. We all will be received in Graceland. It’s easier to give than to receive. Give . . . Grace. Actions extended without expectation of anything in return. Selfless and uncomplicated.

Images of grace swirl in my head and I am smiling.

Charitable words shared between strangers

Heeding the right-of-way in traffic

Opening a door for others

The song sung at the beside of the dying . . . Amazing.

Stacked strollers instead of doublewides, so that sidewalks are shared

The loan of a favorite book

The rekindling of friendships

Listening without responding

The professor who gives an unexpected grade

The name of my well-worn Volvo because she got me where I needed to go

My dear friend Grace, who approaches life with calm intent, wrapping love and wisdom into our conversations

Grace comes in all forms, including the dove who graced my porch the weekend I buried my parents, the day I sold my home and moved to a new life, and back again, to carry my sweet hound dog to his place of peace.
